Abstractions from life, a situation, a memory. To me it is
the meaning or impression of these things. As to the design and form of
the work it is similar: the idea, remembrance of the shape and the color.
In other words, what I take as important from the subject. Then convey
the idea, emotion and impression  in color and form.
"The Livin is
Easy"
 is the middle
of summertime. This
quilt is directly from
a rough draft in my
sketchbook. Scot
liked the design so
much he wanted to
see it made from the
spontaneous lines.
Machine and corded
applique,
threadpainting,
machine quilted.
Beads and buttons
added.
"Splendid Lady"
she's cool, she's
having a good time.
Turns her backside to
the snake and moves
on.
Both untitled quilts, the forms used are primarily off-cuts
from several other works.
"Totems" 18"  x 22" tells the story of the
funny little animals that move in herds and
eat wild grasses.
Fused raw edge applique and machine
quilting.
"Harp Seed" 18"   x 22"   is a rare type of
imaginary fern. Machine appliqued and not
quilted yet.
"Glass Watergarden"   is one in a
series. Shiny rayon, polyester and metallic
threads are used to mimic some beautiful
glass art I've seen. The fabric is hand
painted and there are beads attached by
my beading by machine technique.
"Hottest Little Blues Club"   When I
was a teenager, my friends and I would
take a train downtown Chicago. We would
go to places we weren't supposed to. We
also would visit the Art Institute.
Cotton fabrics machine appliqued. Hand
stitching and beading, machine quilted.
This is my" Jazz Cat Jacket" and I wear
it all the time.
Solid threadpainted applique stitched to
jacket with novelty yarn and beads added.
"Moon over the Mountain"
was made at the same time
as splendid lady and hottest
blues club. They were based on
some early morning drawings.
Fabrics are silver net, cotton
and silk dupioni.
Techniques include corded
applique, threadpainting and
decorative machine stitching.
This video is a class in
Decorative Machine
Work. it includes
concise, step-by-step
demonstrations. The
mix of feet, decorative
stitches and novelty
threads create
beautiful
embellishments. These
techniques will add a
new dimension to your
textile creations.
This video class shows
10 variations of a simple
machine beading
technique. These ideas,
as well as the little
notion the "Beadle",
were developed over a
two and a half year
period. This is only the
beginning of the exciting
variations that can be
achieved with this
technique. The "Beadle"
is also available in the
online store
