Dreamworld  These may be fantasy people, places
and animals, but they originated in reality. Some of these works
reference my study of historical and world embroidery and some of it
references literature. This work is all done on the sewing machine
with the threadpainting technique.
"The Joker" is an image on the back of a
jacket I made. I wear it on occasion.
"Sunships"12"x14" references to my
childhood when we went sailing with my
Grampa Swindeman on Lake Erie. The
background is stitched in crosshatch and
seeding, then extended with marks made
with fabric markers and color pencils. This
is a study for a larger work.
"A Sunny Day" is a small study that is
appliqued to the back of Mary Schmary's
blue jean jacket.
"A Midsummer's Daydream" is my
daughter,Robby, when she was two. She
is grown up, now and AJ is her little boy.
This quilt looks like a page from a fairie
tale book. I painted the drapery linen on
which I  stitched the design.
"Lady Elizabeth" is my daughter and she was in
many musicals in school. I made her costumes. Here, I
wanted to make a butterfly woman and dress her as
Erte may have. There is threadpainting and applique in
this quilt and some beads.
"Thar be Dragons Here" is a kimono. I stitched the
sections of the dragon separately and then appliqued
them to the golden fabric. I channel quilted the sleeves
and the front panels with a twin needle. There are
approximately too many beads on this work.
"Lady of the Garden" 12"x20" is
stitched on my hand painted fabric.
My sister contends that
these two works are
self-portraits.
"A Renaissance of Peace" 36"x45" is a mix of threadpainting,
applique, decorative stitching on machine and hand and hand beading.
There are approximately many, many beads on this quilt.
This video is a class in
Decorative Machine
Work. it includes
concise, step-by-step
demonstrations. The
mix of feet, decorative
stitches and novelty
threads create
beautiful
embellishments. These
techniques will add a
new dimension to your
textile creations.
This video class shows
10 variations of a simple
machine beading
technique. These ideas,
as well as the little
notion the "Beadle",
were developed over a
two and a half year
period. This is only the
beginning of the exciting
variations that can be
achieved with this
technique. The "Beadle"
is also available in the
online store
